FAQ
What is hermes serve?
Hermes Agent is an AI agent you run on your own machine. hermes serve starts its server so clients can connect to it. Shadow Bridge is one of those clients: it connects to that server and gives you chat, approvals, sessions, cron, kanban, and memory on your iPhone or iPad. You need your own Hermes Agent install; Shadow Bridge does not host one for you.
How do I connect over Tailscale?
Install Tailscale on the machine running hermes serve and on your iPhone or iPad, signed in to the same tailnet. In Shadow Bridge, add a server using the machine's tailnet name or 100.x address and the port Hermes is listening on. Your server stays off the public internet, and you can reach it from anywhere your phone has a connection.
How do Face ID approvals work?
When an agent asks to run a tool, Shadow Bridge shows you the request so you can approve or deny it. If you turn on Face ID for approvals in settings, approving also requires Face ID. The check is done by iOS; the app only learns whether it succeeded.
What happens if iCloud sync is off?
Your server list stays on this device only. Everything else works the same. Turn iCloud on later and the list syncs to your other devices through your private iCloud. Server passwords never sync either way; they stay in each device's Keychain, so enter them once per device.
Shadow Bridge is an independent client for Hermes Agent. For problems with Hermes Agent itself, check the Hermes Agent project documentation.
